Registered Dietitians (RD's) have an in-depth scientific knowledge of food and nutrition. The Family Health Team Dietitian will integrate this knowledge with other disciplines including health and social sciences, education, communication and management in order to develop a nutrition intervention that best suits your current health status and goals. Dietitians are the recognized food and nutrition professionals in Canada. 

Your Primary Care Provider or other Allied Health staff may refer you to the Dietitian for individual treatments and / or education according to your needs.

Examples of patient situations suitable for referral are:

  • Healthy Weights

  • Prenatal Nutrition

  • Pediatric Nutrition such as; failure to thrive, obesity, picky eating, food allergies, bowel management

  • Geriatric Nutrition such as; unintended weight loss or gain, and cooking and meal planning for one

  • Eating Disorders suspected or diagnosed

  • Allergies and Immunology

  • Cardiovascular Health such as; Hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease, and Dyslipidemia

  • Diabetes including; Hypoglycemia, Impaired Fasting Glucose, Impaired Glucose Tolerance

  • Micronutrients Deficiencies

  • Musculoskeletal Disorders such as; Gout, Osteoporosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's

  • Gastrointestinal issues such as; Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Disease, Diverticulitis, IBS, GERD, Gastroparesis and Constipation

  • Other health conditions such as; Cancers, Fatty Liver, Kidney Stones, Pancreatitis, COPD, Polycystic Ovaries, and Gallbladder Disease
